Anybody else miss those team-building events? Let’s bring the fun back and boost our team’s spirit!
At my old gig we use to do events monthly and sometime weekly to foster team building. I remember a team event we had at a lake outside of Dallas many years ago. We spent the whole day cooking, laughing, and enjoying each other’s company. Management did all the cooking, prepping and serving the food. Folks would bring there families, kids, and at this particular event some the furry friends even showed up. We had about 100 people in our branch that year and I am betting close to 80 or more showed up. We got to take some time off work and do stuff that had nothing to do with our everyday cold calling and selling. It just felt right.
Since COVID, it feels like a lot of these events have been reduced, and it’s time to bring them back. Creating a fun and caring workplace helps everyone bond and talk about more than just work. Here’s how you can boost team spirit:
- Ask your staff what they want to do, remember if this is your first event, it will likely be clunky. But the more experiences you share the easier it gets. have fun with it, embrace the suck if it doesn’t go as planned and don’t be scared to plan the next one.
- Be consistent and follow through with the event. ( at all costs don’t change an event last minute). I always felt like this shows you don’t give a shit about your staffs personal schedule. If you set the date stick with it.
- Celebrate Together: Throw small parties for birthdays or have theme days
- Give Cool Gifts: Hand out fun stuff like jackets, beanies, or water bottles during busy times. It shows you care.
- Plan Fun Outings: Take the team to a local sports game or fun event. Give out team T-shirts to make it special.
- Build Connections: These events help everyone get to know each other better and feel like a real team.
By mixing fun activities with thoughtful gifts, you’ll create a team that’s excited to support each other and work hard.
Go, team, go! 🎉
